Q&A with Brelyn Bashrum

Who inspires you?

I’m inspired by my family and friends, coworkers and other mentors and leaders in my life. I find myself gravitating towards authenticity, servant leadership, determination and empathy.

What was your first job?

My first job was working on a social media account for a company that distributed video cameras. I knew I liked planning and creating content for social media, but this was my first experience juggling a job while also managing an unpaid internship, college classes and extracurricular activities—all to boost my resume and gain valuable experience. During college, I also worked at a grocery store and as a server in a local breakfast eatery. My early jobs taught me how to work in a team setting while also achieving my personal goals.

Name two things you consider yourself to be really good at.

I love people and I love to learn. I wanted to go into the account-side of advertising and PR because I have a passion for client relations and developing strategy. Aside from account-facing projects, I prefer working in team settings, which I probably gained from my two years participating in the National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC), the second year’s campaign winning nationals. My desire to learn manifests in my deep love for research and writing; I always want to be absorbing new information and sharpening my creative skillsets. No matter where I go in my career, I will carry the mindset that there are always new things to learn and new ways to grow.

What show are you watching on Netflix right now?

When I’m not rewatching “New Girl” for the umpteenth time, I’m exploring other Netflix programs like their comedy specials, documentaries and cooking shows. I’m personally more of a movie person, but I do love watching TV shows in groups where we can chat while they are running.

Where is your favorite place to travel?

Before COVID, my family loved to go on a trip every other year. We’re super active on vacations so I’d probably say our mountain travels to places like Lake Tahoe, Denver and especially Telluride are my top choices. We’ve experienced adventures like horseback riding, white-water rafting, ziplining and, of course, miles and miles of hiking and biking. Wanting to switch things up, I have NYC and Europe on my horizon to visit next!

What are three things on your bucket list?

  1. The classic trip to Europe where I visit a new country every two days or so!
  2. I’ve always wanted to learn how to surf
  3. Live somewhere outside of Texas for a few years in my 20s

What are you most proud of when it comes to Beyond Fifteen?

I’ve been working at Beyond Fifteen for a few months and have already gained a couple big PR wins in my time here. When I started, I wanted my initial months to be focused on establishing myself and learning my strengths and weaknesses in this new environment. I’ve achieved that goal, and I’m looking forward to continuing to grow and develop as a young professional under the great leadership this company provides. Starting your first serious professional job out of college is always new and a little scary, but this team makes it easier and I have gleaned a lot from their drive, collaboration and support!

What do you love most about Beyond Fifteen?

This is a company that cares about its people. Leslie and Lauren do an incredible job of setting the work standard for the group, and each team member goes above and beyond to support their clients and each other. I feel incredibly grateful to be part of such an inspiring team, and I can’t wait to continue to learn from everyone during my time here!
